Autumn Update

The Chairman has identified speakers for the coming season and is in the final stages of pinning them down to the most convenient meeting date. It is hoped that the card can be printed for distribution at the first meeting 5th October.

The committee are working with Briars Hall to achieve a compromise on the menu and associated price rises. It is hoped that we can work within the meal costing £25 each for the duration of the season.

Progress is being made on a number of LADS trips – pencil in mid to late January 2023 for a trip to Rotterdam. Intentions are that we will leave Thursday afternoon, travelling by coach/ferry rather than flying, and returning for mid-day on the following Monday. Visits to the Lely factory, the Nationwide Poeldijk Depot and glasshouses are in the planning. Indicative costs are in the order of £450 and the deposit will be £100. As always, priority will go to members but it is anticipated that there may be some places for guests. More details will be provided at the first meeting.

Tony Grimshaw

It is with sadness that I have to report the passing of former Chairman and Committee member Tony Grimshaw who passed away in hospital on Friday evening.

We offer our condolences to his wife Ann, son Michael and daughter Nicky at this sad time.

Tony was and active member of the LADS until his recent ill health. We had many a good laugh and joke on some interesting trips to Europe and beyond.

Tony arranged a great trip to Italy when he was our Chairman in 2013, where we saw parmesan cheese and Parma ham production. We also saw how balsamic vinegar was produced.

As of yet there is no date for the funeral.

RIP Tony. We will miss you. Our thoughts are with all the family at this sad and difficult time.

UPDATE 12/6/22 : The funeral service will be held at Halsall Church on Tuesday 21st June at 2pm. Please circulate.
